How to edit htaccess file of WordPress website

In an earlier tutorial we taught you how you can create htaccess file for your WordPress website. Now we are going to teach you how you can edit it if it’s already there. There are quite a few ways that you can use to do the task. We are going to cover three different ways by which you can edit htaccess file of WordPress website.

Using cPanel to edit htaccess

To use this method first you have to login to the cPanel of your hosting account. and the head to the file manager section. There you will find an option of file manager, you just have to click it.

when you open the file manager then you will find the option to go to different directories, just make sure to tick the show hidden files box before hitting the Go button.

Now that you have the list of files, you can find the .htaccess file in the root directory of the specific website and then you can right-click and edit it.

Now you can edit and enter the new code to the fie and then save it.

Using the ftp to edit .htaccess

To use this method you have to use a ftp client, If you don’t have one then you can use one of the free ftp client. we are taking Filezilla as an example, you have to force showing hidden files under server options.

This will help ftp client to display hidden files such as .htaccess file. Under the root directory you will see the .htaccess file and you just have to right-click and hit the edit option. After making the changes you just have to save and upload the file back to the server.

Using WordPress dashboard

This will get to a window where you can edit your htaccess file right from your dashboard. This is one of the most easy way by which you can edit htaccess file of WordPress website.

You can choose the one best suited for you, using cpanel and ftp gives you more options like viewing and editing the core files of your website.
