Type of creative common license you should know.

In our previous posts many times we have covered the use of images on your website to make the content more user-friendly. It’s been studied that users spend more time on the content with images than the content with only text.

Can you use any image?

NO,

This is the most simple answer, you can not use any image out there on your website. There is copyright attached to the image, there are different types of copyright known as creative commons which tells you the way that you can use a specific image.

Creative commons are not limited to images only, Creative commons are used for anything that is digitally available, images, videos, music, software.

Different Type of creative commons for images

1. Attribution CC BY: In this kind of licence you can use the image the way you like distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon the image. You can distribute the content both commercially and non-commercially, It’s just that you have to give credit to the creator of the image.

2. Attribution Share-alike CC BY SA: This license will allow you to remix, tweak, and build upon the work both commercially and non-commercially the only thing is that you have to give proper attribution to the creator and share the new creation under the same license as original.

3. Attribution NoDerivs CC BY ND: Under this license you can use the image both commercially and non-commercially. You are restricted to make changes to the item. you can distribute the item unchanged and you should give the proper attribute to the creator.

4. Attribution Noncommercial CC BY NC: This will let you remix, tweak, and build upon the item and you can use it non-commercially. You should give proper attribution to the creator of the item. Under this you don’t have to license the derivative works on the same terms.

5. Attribution Noncommercial Sharealike CC BY NC SA: Under this You can remix, tweak, and build upon the item, You can use this only non-commercially. You can distribute the new item under the same license as original.

6. Attribution Non Commercial NoDerivs CC BY NC ND: This license restricts you to make any changes to the item, you can only use it non commercially and you should give proper attribution to the creator of the item.

7. Public Domain CC0: This is one of the most easy to use license as you don’t have to give credit attributes, you can use the item both commercially and non commercially. You can remix, tweak, and build upon the item, overall you have the full control over the item and the ways you can use it.

8. Public Domain Mark: This means that the work is not protected by copyright laws. This can be due to many reasons, expiry of license, owner failed to follow certain required formalities, the work is not eligible for the creative common license.

These are the types of creative commons license that you should keep in mind before using images, video, audio or software on your website. Going by the rules can save you from trouble if breaching anyone’s copyright.
